Moogle's Day Out
Have I mentioned how much I love being able to pop down to Washington D.C. on my days off? ^____^ Seriously, it rocks. Even if I'm mostly interested in the museums. (There are a lot of museums.)

There was a exhibition of stuff excavated from Pompeii that I've been wanting to see for a while at the National Gallery of Art, and I kinda had to get my butt out there today 'cause the exhibition closes tomorrow. XP *procrastinatory moogle* Anyway, it was really interesting. There were murals of what a Roman house would have looked like at that time, and lots of statues (of course) and friezes and reliefs and such. The courtyard section seemed to have a lot of Dionysos-themed stuff - I guess that's the god you call on when you're having a good time in the back garden.

Among the sculptures there were a lot of emperors, but there were also regular people - well, regular rich people. One of them was a life-size sculpture of the daughter of a rich guy, which I think would be kinda creepy. A big stone me, staring at me every time I came down the stairs? Nooo thank you. XP I much preferred the statue of Artemis (it was her smile, mostly - kind of amused at all the goings-on) and the head of Athena (she looked very calm, so it made me calm to look at her. ^_^).

I think the paintings were my favorite part, though. There was this one painting with three scenes of centaurs and nymphs (excuse me) horsing around, and even a picture of a lady painter, which we are told is quite rare. (The picture of the lady painter, not lady painters themselves).

Anyway, it was interesting, but also kind of crowded, so I didn't stay as long as I could have. Instead I walked down a couple blocks to the Natural History Museum. *squee break* I could seriously spend a week in that place, there's so much stuff. I wanted to get home at a decent time, though, so I confined myself to the gift shops and an exhibit on how butterflies and plants evolved together. ...Mostly because it had a greenhouse-ish enclosure with live butterflies. I took lots of pictures. ^_^ ...Which you will see at a later time. *collapse*

So, good day. But I am worn out now. *sighs and flops out* ^_^ ...Who knows, maybe I'll go back next weekend for the cherry blossom festival. :D
