Well, now I've been to the Cherry Blossom Festival.
*crosses off item on list* Done! I don't ever need to do it again.
So, if you ever get the urge to take the Metro into DC on a weekend during Cherry Blossom week? Don't. The words 'logistical nightmare' come to mind. About the only thing that would be worse would be driving into D.C. that weekend. Rent a helicopter instead. ...But I did bond with a pretty girl over how crowded it was and even struck up a conversation. ^_^ That was the extent of my Socializing for the day, but it's more than I usually do.
I had trouble finding where the Japanese street festival was being located, so I ended up wandering down the Mall to the Washington Monument and found... cherry trees! Yaaaay, my first actual sakura since I first moved to this area. They were all white and very pretty. There were lots of other people there, picnicking and taking pictures and climbing the trees and whatnot. I managed to get a few good pictures, including a few Myspacey ones of myself.
You can see why they named this particular variety after snow.
A pattern against the sky.
I think this shot is a legal requirement. XD
People-watching under a frothy canopy...
Pretty little flowers.
Not shown: the stains from where I spilled cherry Italian Ice all over myself. ^_^;;;
Why do I prefer pictures of myself when I'm not looking at the camera?
Hiding, just a little.
After that, I wandered back around and eventually found the festival; yaaaay! ^_^ It was also very very crowded. The lines for food were so long that I would have collapsed before I ever got to order, so I didn't bother. I mostly just wandered around and people-watched. There were displays of crafts and antique kimonos, wood carving, Shinto and Buddhist societies (I got a fortune scroll: Excellent Fortune! :D), and other shiny shopping opportunities. Toward the end it sort of turned into a mini outdoor anime convention, complete with a J-rock band I've never heard of, gothic lolitas, and a Cloud cosplayer. I was hooome! XD
Excuse me, have you seen a man in a black cape? :D
I was hoping to get a bokken to replace the one the movers lost this summer, but none of the ones for sale really impressed me. So I got a Sora plushie instead. He's lying on my scanner grinning right now. He's very cute, even if I do need to do some repair work on him already. (Fandom plushies are such a racket, I swear. I'd swear off of them if I wasn't so addicted. *is weak*)
Getting home was even worse than getting there - I had to wait twenty minutes in line before I even got into the train station for the love of Bahamut! - but I managed in the end. With a brief detour in the Moongarden to admire the magnolias.
Not perfect, but pretty all the same.
And now I am so, so tired. *flop* Also, I have a sunburn on my chest - everywhere except where my amber pendant was laying. So, whatever powers amber may have, it is not a charm against sunburn. XD
...So, one last Thing before I crawl off to bed:
.......I couldn't resist. ^_^
