Agh. *clutches head*
It's no secret that the video game industry is heavily skewed towards Those With Peens. Men are the main characters in the vast majority of games; when women show up, they are inevitably the Damsel in Distress, the Girlfriend, the White Mage, the Object at the end of the level, the support and foil for the male lead.* Sometimes I lie awake at night, languishing for want of a Strong Female Role Model and wishing to high heaven that the video game industry would just try making a female lead once in a while.

...And then I find stuff like this, and wish they'd just go back to making prettyboy male leads. -_-

*I know there are exceptions, but anyone holding up Lara Croft as a shining example of feminine empowerment will be kicked in the polygons.

...yeah, eff y'all. *flips game industry in general off*

I'm already mad at the game industry for the the new stuff I read about Dante's Inferno (and god, did they have to violate Inferno that badly? I'm still *stabbity* over how Beatrice, already a McGuffin in the original, got turned into a Girl in a Refrigerator, and reading about the Lust level...asdfghjkl;)

I'm looking forward to FF13, where Lightning is just as liable to punch her teammates in the face as help them. And where it is obvious she is NOT anybody's love interest (Snow is her sister's fiance and she apparently would just as soon gut him in the beginning of the game and Sazh is a widower with a six-year-old in the mess to save his kid.)

Honestly, I have to wonder about the various gaming companies. I strongly suspect they're actively trying to turn off the female gamer market - there is just no way known to mankind that they could miss the mark so badly and so often purely by accident.

Ah well, at least there's Squeenix. If nothing else, they give us pretty characters to look at while we're wishing some of the female characters were capable of equipping this "spine" thingie (as per Aerith/Yuna/Rinoa archetypes) or while we're waiting for the genki one (Yuffie/Selphie/Rikku) to come down off the sugar high, or for the Token Sex Object (Tifa/all three in FFX2/anyone female in FFXII) to get the whole wardrobe malfunction moment over and done with so she can get on with kicking arse and taking names.
