Still not ready to talk about Grampy himself.
Grampy's been fighting cancer for over a year. About two months ago we got the news that it had spread to his liver, and I guess at that point there's nothing more they can do. My parents made plans to go and see him as soon as Mom got out of school, and I bailed out on work during a holiday weekend to tag along.
Apparently Grampy had been still chugging along, but right before my parents arrived I guess he started taking a turn for the worse. By the time I arrived a day later, he was barely lucid and not mobile at all. He did recognize me, though only briefly. Then the next day he did nothing but sleep, and right after I went to bed he passed away.
My grandmother, his wife, doesn't know yet, I don't think. She has memory problems and lives in an assisted living facility. My parents and my aunt are taking on the job of making all the arrangements and digging through all his papers and things. Me, I just stay out of the way.
The funeral's set for Thursday, and I'm staying for it. I tried to get in contact with someone at work twice yesterday, but no luck. I'm going to call again in fifteen minutes, and if no one's available, I'm just going to leave a message. -_-
EDIT: Left a message with the receptionist. So hopefully I'm squared away.
