My feels, let me show you them.
Here's why I think the Affordable Care Act is a good thing.
Ever hear of Remote Area Medical? They're a bunch of volunteer doctors who go all around the world to places where medical care is hard to come by or hard to afford - places where the infrastructure is fucked and the need is desperate.
Guess where you might find these angels of mercy. Haiti? Afghanistan? The Congo? Nope. According to their schedule, their next port of call is Rosebud, South Dakota. Here in the richest country in the world, our citizens are forced to line up for hours to be seen by emergency volunteers in empty schools and horse barns. Not because we've been ravaged by war or natural disaster, but because we're apparently either too stupid or too stubborn to fix the issues preventing our poor and vulnerable from getting the medical care they need.
That shit makes me ashamed of my country, y'all.
So yeah, I do think ACA is a good thing. It's not OMG Socialized Medicine, it's not a guarantee of free health care for everybody for life, it's not perfect. But it'll help. It'll alleviate human suffering. That's the only important bit. Everything else is just words.
