"So, Brain, what are we going to do tonight?" "The same thing we do every night, Uterus..."
I'm starting to think my mood is connected to my monthlies. I've been down since last week, and my euphemism just started today. I wonder if there's a birth control pill designed to address that. ...I wonder if any birth control pills don't play well with my happy drugs. o_O

Either way, I know that I should probably get back to seeing a therapist. It's just that, I don't want to start developing a relationship with a shrink only to have to find another one if/when I move. It's almost easier to wait until after my living conditions change. ...Of course, I applied the same logic to making friends in elementary school, and I wound up with social anxiety. I can't win. -_-

Mom made little rice balls for her second-grade class for Chinese New Year (a week late, but whatevs) and now I find myself searching desperately for onigiri recipes. One of Mom's friends in Japan showed us how to make onigiri filling with pork and ginger and bean paste, and it was soooo good but I can't remember the specifics anymore and I can't find a recipe online (and I can't find bean paste, either). Lots of stuff about furikake and flaked fish and pickled plums though. And one recipe with Spam, oddly enough. Apparently it's the invention of Japanese expatriates in Hawaii. Rock on with your bad selves, guys.

I've been sure mine was for a couple of years now, so - very likely. *hugs...* LOL hormones, I'm sure. XP

I wonder if there's a birth control pill designed to address that.

Very likely again, but finding one that doesn't make your other stuff go tits-up is probably going to be interesting. *curls up with and thinks* I don't know enough about it to be sure, but there's bound to be plenty of places to investigate...

I wonder if there's a birth control pill designed to address that.

All hormonal birth control methods do that! That's (part of) why they're so AWESOME!

Your mood is definitely connected to your hormone cycle. When I went on the pill, I stopped having anxiety attacks and I stopped wanting to kill everything on the planet for a few days each month. (Also, think about it. If you're in pain for several days a month, you're going to be a pretty grouchy person. Hormonal birth control usually seriously lessens cramps, which totally rocks.)

See, with hormonal birth control, you don't actually have a period any more. Your hormones are balanced and don't swing around wildly anymore. And if you don't like one particular pill, there's several other kinds of try.

Seriously, going on the pill was one of the best decisions I ever made. I am not sexually active, I researched my options before even talking to my doctor, and I had a long chat with my doctor. I am a happier, more stable person today. The pill really works for me.

Aaand I just switched to Jolessa-aka-Seasonale so I only have to have four periods a year and I am totally excited.

However! There are tons of other options out there! I have two friends who swear by the NuvaRing and another friend who went through three different varieties of pills before settling on the progesterone-only pill. So definitely talk to your doctor and tell your doctor if you don't like how your particular flavour is treating you.

If you have health insurance, they should cover most types of birth control and most birth control pills have generic versions. Birth control is affordable. Even if you're flat broke, go to your local Planned Parenthood for a year's supply of free birth control.

...er, this is a subject which makes me very excited. Sorry for rambling in your journal. ^^;

*giggles* You're cute when you're excited.

Well, I don't have health insurance, but I'll see what I can do. Lighter periods can only be yay.

Lighter periods are epic yay. It's different for everyone, but my first three months? I had no cramps at all. I started getting cramps back as my body got used to the medication, but they were way, way better. I never wanted to hide in bed for three days straight or live in my bathroom. Rockin'!

(Past tense as I haven't had a bleeding time with Jolessa yet. AND I WON'T. UNTIL SOMETIME IN MARCH. HA HA HA HA.)

I was on Nortrel for about a year and it was $10 a pack/1month with my insurance and $15 without.

I'm now on Jolessa and it's $18.30 a pack/3month with my insurance and $172.79 without.

Our pharmacy is in a Top Foods, but that should still give a basic example of how the prices can vary. I am also in Washington state and we have a prescription drug discount card. It would probably cost me more to buy my happy hormone drugs from a posh pharmacy and it would probably cost me less if I went to Planned Parenthood, for example.

{Most Planned Parenthoods (besides a free year of BC) also offer much cheaper birth control if you have a low income or no insurance. Definitely worth talking to! You can stick your zipcode in at their website to see if there's one near you.}

(Planned Parenthood also makes me excited. I will try to stop pimping them now.)
