Checking in.

So, back from NYCC. But full writeup will have to wait, because despite my best efforts I did pick up the Con Crud and I am now a sodden heap of slimy, horrible misery. Watch this space.

Off to NYCC!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
After tearing my room apart looking for that little piece of my costume, argh. *facepalm* I really should have started packing yesterday.

ANYWAY. I'll be back Tuesday. Don't burn down the Internet while I'm gone.

I'm getting that con feeling again.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
(No, not that con. Go away, Decepticons.)

I used to go to cons every year in college, back when all my friends didn't live a zillion miles away. ;P Last con I was at was Botcon '10 (see icon), and since future Botcons are out of the picture for a while, I've been contemplating maybe going to one of the pan-fandom ones that everyone keeps talking about.

Besides, three words: steampunk moogle cosplay.

Soooo... anyone else going to Dragon*Con or NYCC this year? Got any recommendations as to one or the other? Want to coordinate? I don't wanna go alone... XD

Well, drat.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Botcon's in Pasadena, CA this year. That's... so far out of the realm of possibility it's not even worth contemplating. Dammit, Hasbro! Way to harsh my squee!

Of course, there are other cons. I'm kind of eyeing Dragon*Con, since people I know go there, and I could still be Galvatron in theory. Of course, if I go there, I'm kinda tempted to do a steampunk theme outfit as well. I've already got a corset (thanks, Ravyn!) and I'd have time to work on the rest. Nothing too elaborate, of course.

But all that is still a big, huge, massive If. September's a long way away, I don't have any clue where I'll be in pretty much every sense of the word.

Botcon 2008 - the report

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So there was this little convention down in Cincinnati over the weekend. More of a small social gathering, really - nothing too exciting. I probably won't even do a post about it.

...I'm kidding. I'm kidding! Please don't lynch me. XD

Sadly, I don't have pictures at the moment - something about wearing cardboard boxes all weekend kinda makes it awkward to carry a camera. [info]oasis_pink_peng has lots, I believe, so I'll mooch them off her. *...waves at Oasis* ^_^;;; Also, [info]lunatron has a few pictures here.

To sum up: awesome convention was awesome. Awesome friends are even more awesome and make me squee. Got shinies, gave shinies. I adore cosplay, and am seriously considering going as Galvatron next time I do one of these little shindigs. ...I'm probably insane.

Am back from Botcon. Had a blast. Full report after ability to put together a coherent sentence is regained.

Hi, I'm Pepper, and this is where I vent.

PSA: You're probably going to hear a fair amount of whining from me about schoolwork over the next couple of months (more than usual, anyway). Said whining may include but is not limited to complaining about professors, other students, the music choices of same, the technological shortcomings of school equipment, the length of time it's been since I last did Flash, the sheer tonnage of work I have to do, demotivational posters, pleas to shoot me now and oh my god I am going to die.

*hem* Please don't take it too seriously. Regardless of how I talk, I am going to do this.

In other news - the military accepted Dad's retirement today,* which is just plain weird. Dad's been in the Air Force longer than I've been alive - hell, he was in ROTC when Mom met him in college. He's no Patton or anything, but I still have a hard time picturing him in a civilian role. He's been looking for jobs all over the place, but he and Mom are probably going to be moving to the Baltimore/DC area come late July. Assuming I don't find an OUTRAAAAAGEOUS job elsewhere (;D), I'll probably tag along. I really did like that area.

[info]poptartodoom and I are actually making visible progress on our costumes now, despite my Bright Idea that sidetracked us for a couple of weeks. Now I just need to find a pair of friggin' red gloves. *rummages through Goodwill* ...Speaking of Botcon, I've been havin' me a thought. See, David Kaye (the voice of Beast Wars Megatron, among others) is going to be there. And me? I have a 3.75mm hook and half a skein of very, very purple yarn, and a penchant for making plushies.

.......Oh, yeeesssss. >D

(Remind me later and I'll do my "Fuck You, She's Awesome" list. Right now I have a date with high explosives.)

*The retirement was accepted yesterday. This afternoon a Colonel Whom Dad Doesn't Like called him up and asked him if he'd like to maybe delay his retirement to go serve a tour in Korea. I would've liked to be there when Dad laughed in her face.

Related to school? Naaaah.

It's been Persecution Complex Theater the past couple of nights.

Dream 1: Saturday night )

Dream 2: Sunday night )

Not bad or scary, just odd. Possibly story-making too.

Anyway, I've been sleeping pretty much nonstop since Friday (the first day of my spring break), but I did manage to drag myself to [info]poptartodoom's house for costuming and general tomfoolery. We managed to get quite a bit done (even more when Poptart discovered the joy which is staples, considering I can't sew worth a hill 'o beans) despite watching copious amounts of Transformers and fooling around in the mall and Walmart, but it looks as though my weekends are spoken for until after BotCon. We've still got a lot of work to do. (Ratchet and Wheeljack will make it to BotCon, dammit! Even if we have to take felt markers to a couple of T-shirts.)

I actually participated in this month's [info]porn_battle. Kuja/Garnet, bondage and Edgeworth/Phoenix, role reversal. Actually, I highly recommend going through the master list, as there are many, many sweet pornings to be had.

(Speaking of which, I should really start on my prompt for [info]takoyaoi_love...)

Also, some awesome idiot rickrolled the WBC. That makes me happy really a lot.

Tomorrow is my training day at the dog shelter, so I'll need to remember to take gloves. It's supposed to be in the single digits tomorrow, oy. *shivers*

Spent the night over at Poptart's, as we really needed to get started on our costumes for Botcon. We watched some G1 to get references (it kind of amazed me - with all the good fic out there, it's easy to forget how hilariously awful the show could be), were silly, and I tried to poison Poptart with spinach. (I was only trying to be nice! T_T) We've got the basic design outlined now, and we know what we need for materials, and we even got started on the helmets.

I'm so 'cited. ^____^

Ohayocon 2008

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Know, O Best Beloved, that I have traveled to Ohayocon and returned more or less in one piece, along with Ravyn, Becca, Luna and Poptart; know further that this is the chronicle of my adventures therein, in bloggish format with pictures.

Saturday )

Sunday )

Cosplay photos )

Total swag: a Keyblade necklace (really, really, really need to get KH2), a little Vaan figurine, a Chocobo Tales plushie (yes, I know I can make a chocobo, but it was so cute! And it had a BOOK! I couldn't resist.), a mess of buttons and a shinyshiny Sephiroth bookmark from Artists' Alley (so going to be a plushie seller at Artists' Alley when I grow up, ohyes), a Phoenix Wright T-shirt that says, dramatically, "iObject", and the aforementioned bokken. And soap from Luna, cookies from Poptart, and toys and a corset from Ravyn.

And now? I slept pretty much all day yesterday, and I'm still kinda exhausted. XD Man, cons take it out of you.

Getting ready to go to Ohayocon!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Eeeee! *yayflail* Don't expect to see much of me this weekend, for I will be having a fabulous time with my fellow geeks. ^_^ And probably causing no end of chaos, like we do.

A couple links to keep you busy while I'm gone:

LookPink.com - each search raises funds for breast cancer research. Save the ta-tas!

"Little Creature" by Ursula Vernon - I need to crochet a Little Creature plushie. It's just unavoidable.

Also, a meme, from [info]trollprincess: Please comment with something you think I should do or try to do in 2008. Big or small, silly or earth-changing. I can't wait to see what you crazy people come up with. ;P
