As fun as it is to bewail the oncoming Disney-fication of Marvel (oh come on, admit it, a Marvel world in Kingdom Hearts III would be adorable), I have to say I'm much more looking forward to a Marvel-fication of certain Disney properties. Think about it:

Years of abuse have made her tough as nails, and now she's finally had enough. With her deadly mop-fu and the birds and mice at her command, she's on a mission to uphold the honor of her late father and extract justice on those who prey on the powerless. Cinderella: she's going to clean up this town.

-or-

Following the betrayal of her father by the treacherous Jafar, Jasmine survives on the streets of Agrabah as an assassin for hire. Her acrobatic skill, faithful friend Rajah, and her family's scimitar serve her well, earning her some measure of fame in this whole new world. Yet her mortal enemy still hunts her, and Jasmine will need all the skill she possesses and all the friends she can find to retake her rightful throne!

...Don't even get me started on Belle. ;)

Saw Up with my mom last night. It was adorable and tearjerking and funny, which, y'know, Pixar. ;P ...After the movie we shared some ice cream and talked about how we needed to lose weight. Girl bonding, LOL. XD

I'm sort of playing with the seed of an idea of a duo of fics and/or drabble sets in the Pokemon world, Pokemon: Magic and Pokemon: Science. Science would focus on the network of Pokemon researchers and Pokedex trainers, and their quest to discover How It All Works. Magic would focus on the mythology surrounding the Legendaries, and how that translates to a near reverence for nature in general among humans and their relationships with Pokemon. ...Naturally, since there's a third game in each generation that comes out a little later, I'd have to come out with a third fic-set called, I don't know, Culture or some such.

...Dear god, someone please pry these games out of my hands. XD

Yes, Mom, I love you.

So my mom comes home and goes "I got us tickets to Transformers! I am the best mom ever! :DDDD!" And she is, but then I had to tell her that I'm already going with some friends on Saturday. (She was too thrilled about me having friends to be disappointed, her lack of interest in giant robots notwithstanding.)

Also, given the speed at which I write, this is kind of comforting.

...yeah, I saw Star Trek. ^_^ My parents' friend came in to visit this afternoon so I had guest-sitting duty 'til my parents came home, and she wanted to see a movie - who am I to protest? Saves me from having to try to make conversation. ;) Anyway, it was all very shiny and enjoyable. And the rest is cut just in case. )

Also, I literally squeed out loud at the G.I. Joe and Transformers trailers. Homg. Transfomers spoilers! )

Mom took me Out today, apparently partly because I've been morose. Which - well, yeah. -_- Anyway, it was nice - got our hair cut and went to see Coraline. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit; Mom fell asleep during the second half. XD But she says she enjoyed what she saw of it, so that's all right. ...She asked me at one point if I wanted an Other Mother too. I told her I had enough trouble with the one I already had. She laughed.

Anyway, look! More Five Questions! These are from a [info]deepbluesquee.

Y'all know the drill. )

In other news, for those who are still on LJ, Springkink is doing a anonymous kink meme. It's only on until 11:59 tomorrow night, so go! Prompt! Write! And see if you can spot the ones I contributed. ;P

...I better go write some [info]ffvii_100 drabbles. *scurries*

Persepolis

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I had the day off today (apparently I'm still in limbo at work, schedule-wise), so I watched the movie Persepolis. It's a (mostly) black and white cartoon film, an autobiographical account of a girl growing up in Iran during the war and revolution.

I won't go into too much detail. I'm still sorting through my feelings about it, but I have to say it really affected me. Even though I can't really imagine or understand a lot of the things she lived through, I could identify with how she felt growing up. One thing's for sure, I feel a lot better about our government, despite our faults, but at the same time I feel even stronger about fighting for the things I'm passionate about.

I didn't really get any writing done today. How do you find words after hearing a story like that?

September 19th, 2008

Proper update later, I promise.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
It's just that I have a lot of pictures to upload, and my computer tends to make that process more of a pain in the ass than it needs to be. So I'm putting it off. -_-

In the meantime: SHINY. Hmm, costume refs to boot. Though looking at that I think I'm going to have to be verrrrry careful with my right hand, or make the cannon detachable. Otherwise I'm going to knock something over. XD ...Oh, take me, you sexy beast you.

EDIT: Because we were bored, 'Boots and I came up with a cast list for a live-action FF7. Here's the fruits of our labor, and I do mean fruits. )

OMG my childhood!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
God help me, but I'm really kind of looking forward to the DBZ movie.

(Rant inspired by this convo on [info]scans_daily. Contains spoilers and possible destruction-of-childhood.)

So here's the thing about DBZ. I grew up with it. I love the characters. I even have a fondness for the ugly designs and the awful plots (five episodes to span five minutes, wtf?). So I say this with nothing but love in my heart: this is one shark-jumpy series. I really think that with the exception of Videl and Vegeta's redemption, the entire Buu Saga could have been cut without losing much, and Cell only just missed being just as gratuitous thanks to Gohan's bit at the end (and Cell being a really good villain). I mean, a lot of the main characters have the power to destroy planets. They're practically gods. The only thing you can do is keep inventing more and more powerful bad guys for them to fight, and after a while it just gets ludicrous.

That, I think, is why I don't write DBZ fanfic anymore. Where do you go from there, honestly? You almost have to go the AU route.

The DBZ movie is not going to be faithful to the series. It's not Toriyama (no offense, Toriyama-sensei), it's not aimed at Japanese prepubescent boys, it will be completely different. And I think that's a good thing. Let's hit the reset button, mix things up a bit, and see what happens. Maybe it'll have some better storytelling. Maybe it'll even inspire me to get back on the fanfic mat. At the very least, I can hope for Chichi not being completely useless. (And on that point I am mad at you, Toriyama-sensei. Although I gotta respect Bulma for managing to be a main character in a martial-arts story even though she doesn't do martial arts.)

Which isn't to say it's not going to be gloriously awful. I'd almost be disappointed if it wasn't. ;P

That said! MEME TIEM! This one is from (lj)vani_nessa, the old 'comment to get a letter, then tell us about ten things you like starting with that letter' thing. I got T: Transformers, tea, and tango! )

Strange and odd things.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
- During in-class critique, concerning a video game interface I had designed:
Classmate: The buttons are very... touchable.
Me: *.....................*
Classmate: ...sorry.

- I got complimented on my shoes the other day. From a complete stranger. That always takes me by surprise.

- 'Nother dream: I had to rescue an old friend of mine from Alabama from a capricious faerie who'd turned her into a small fluffy dog, via faerie-style trickery/manners/wordplay. I had gotten in very close with the faerie, and was just running away with my dog-shaped friend when I woke up. *baps alarm with pillow*

- Saw Kung Fu Panda today. I include this in the 'strange and odd' category because it is a Jack Black movie, and everything Jack Black touches turns to WTF. Spoilers herein. )

- Lastly, I don't mean to bring anybody's hopes up since it's all still two weeks and a metric buttload of work away, but, um... I actually think I might graduate. I mean, I think I've started to let myself believe it. ...Okay, look, I wasn't going to do this graduation ceremony, right? My high school graduation was a complete load of horseshit. The highlight was when I stuck my tongue out at the camera right as Dad was taking a picture. But today someone from The Office called because I haven't gotten back to them about buying a cap and gown, and when Mom told me this I pictured it and pictured my name on the announcement and something... just snapped into focus for me, I guess. I've worked my ass off for this, I thought, why shouldn't I stand up there with everyone else? Why shouldn't I be proud? And that's when I started to believe. Despite myself, I started to believe.

This "fandom plushie on Etsy" thing might not be such a pipe dream after all. I'm almost done and I've only been working a few hours.

(No, you don't get to know what I'm making. 120-bell sekrits!)

Also, childhood-destroying stuff behind the cut. Prince Caspian spoilery, at that. )

Back to crocheting. *clutches hook, manic grin*

Mmmmh, Caspian's accent.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Saw Prince Caspian today. Enjoyed the heck out of it, of course. The filmmakers do a good job of making Narnia a living world that stays with you, just as the books did for me... but that's not without its own dangers:

Rodimus: *is pounced and bowled over, oof!* *struggles up and blinks at the massive lion holding him to the earth* What th-!
Aslan: *threatening growl* Why are you here?
Rodimus: It was an accident! I didn't mean to-
Aslan: Didn't you?
Rodimus: ...*guilty look at his fellow Alien Robots from the Stars* Yeah, I guess I did.

...And then Aslan lets him up and they go save Narnia or something.

But you see my dilemma. Right now I'm crossing Narnia with everything. Various Final Fantasies. Kingdom Hearts, of course. TMNT. Negima. Dresden Files. I mean, I shudder to think.

Harry: Jesus Christ, it's a lion.
Aslan: ...-_-

(Also, Reepicheep rocks my socks.)

Am back, having been dragged by [info]_kyri and [info]wildeparis to go see Iron Man, which I previously had very little interest in. My considered and professional review is as follows:

Omgsquee! *flail* ^_^

More later, maybe.

Catching up.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Lessee... what have I been up to the last few days?

Friday: participated in the LJ strike. Yes, I'm a whiny little fangirl, get it out of your systems. My thoughts on the matter in short rant form, for those who are interested. )

*whew* Okay, I'm done.

Saturday: went out in the evening with [info]_kyri and [info]lighttomoyo. We went bowling ([info]_kyri and I sucked) and roller skating (we all kind of sucked) and to dinner, and much fun and liberties with each others' boobs were had by all. And I was out until 1:30 in the morning, whee. ^_^

Sunday: cleaned up in the basement a little, then [info]poptartodoom called to say she was in the area, would I like to do something? As luck would have it, Mom and I had already been planning to see Horton Hears a Who, so one more person was only of the squee. We did like the movie, for reference; was very cute. Although during the scarier parts I kept thinking, "Horton, you're a damn elephant. You outweigh everyone else in the jungle! Just stampede the hell out of them, for heaven's sake!" But then he wouldn't be Horton anymore, and this wouldn't be a kid's movie anymore. And I wonder if I ought to be worried about myself. Horton continued: cut for current events, abortion, and a certain amount of smugness. )

Today: I got much farther on my projects, which is good as the mod ends next week. *eyeroll* Aaaand of course the printer is broken. Argh. Also, I heard a nasty rumor about how few colleges take transfer credits from the school that gets forty thousand dollars a year from me, but I'm trying not to think about that until I graduate. I really, really, really don't need anything else to worry about.

Also, apparently the President is visiting the base on Thursday. He's giving a speech at the Air Force Museum in the morning, and taking over half my dad's office building to give pep talks to the people who lost family in Iraq. (The death toll - just for Americans, mind you - hit the 4000 mark on Easter. Happy resurrection day, Jesus.)

A Turtles ficlet for kyri, because I promised. )

IT'S ALIIIIIIVE.

Ricochet is back from the dead! *does a dance of joy* I hooked him up to his charger on a whim and he just lit right up. I guess he just needed a jump start. ^_^

Also, the bug guy was here today for one last spray. I waited until after he sprayed the whole upstairs with noxious chemicals before engaging him in cutthroat debate about illegal immigration. I apologized to Mom later, but she said she was proud of me. ^______^

Also, we watched Stardust. Minor spoilers. )

ALSO. I am totally not allowed to write a Phoenix Wright/To Kill A Mockingbird crossover. Not. Allowed.

October 24th, 2007

Various things.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
- Cracked 15,000 words in my novel last night. Stayed up 'til midnight to do it, of course, but sometimes you have to sacrifice things in order to pursue more important goals.

- I broke my A/V class's collective brain this morning. Says my professor: "I had a dream I was watching the last Bob Barker episode of The Price Is Right, where he brought out Drew Carey." I piped up thus: "And then they brought out the whipped cream." Good luck scrubbing that image out of your heads, boys! >D (Ultimately, I blame the lack of sleep.)

- Speaking of A/V class, anyone in the Dayton-ish area want to help me out with a script reading on Saturday? (Since, y'know, I actually have weekends back.) Not sure what I'm doing yet, but I'll probably bang out a quick Shakespeare spoof or something. Er... I'll feed you! :D

- Re: the Iron Man movie trailer - am I supposed to sympathize with the main character? I dunno, I'm used to the Spider-Man type, dorky Everyman and all that, but good lord that guy does not make me want to sit in a theater and watch him for two hours. And the suit looks like it came out of one of the cheesier sentai shows. ...Hm. Iron Man vs. Power Rangers? A battle for the ages!

September 24th, 2007

Right then. Weekend report.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Friday night - despite having had only six hours of sleep the night before, I got together with [info]ravynfyre, [info]poptartodoom, and [info]lunatron to go see Transformers in Imax. ...or in this case, "slightly larger screen." And in case you were wondering, the extra footage was disappointing. Just more squishies. -_- Still! The "Autobots Descend" scene was just as squeak-inducing the second time around, and I got to hang out with my friends and make a fannish fool of myself! And crash and burn at the arcade. Racing games, like every other game that doesn't involve extensive menus, are not my forte.

And instead of going right to bed like I should have afterwards, I stayed up and kicked genocidal ass in FFVII. Didn't even need KotR. ^_^

Saturday - [info]ravynfyre and me at the Renfest! Ravyn was smashing in her shieldmaiden dress and she got to do parade with me. ^_^ Also also also, I was actually funny! Granted, most of that was because of a prop one of the food-booth dudes gave me (my "stool sample." Draw your own conclusions) but I also told a girl that the fake ears, toes and fingers in the Viking booth "make good soup." I thought she was going to throw up all over me. XD Of course, the highlight of my day was when the queen asked me to bring her a pretzel. I must have run around half the fair looking for a stupid pretzel dude, before I finally cheated and got one at the source. Of course, not ten minutes later I saw both pretzel dudes. Gah!

Sunday morning, of course, I woke up feeling like death warmed over, tried to snap out of it by eating breakfast, gave up, went back to bed and slept 'til noon. A light lunch and a three-hour nap later I finally watched Advent Children, which nearly made me 'splode from shiny. And now I'm more or less back to normal, energy-wise.

...I don't have any excuse for not working on my Fluffiroth fic now, do I? CURSES. (Except, you know, [info]springkink.)

Today's my first day at my new job! EEEEE!

EDIT: My final project in Advanced Photoshop, a.k.a. Briar and Laramie being fluffy at each other. It's as done as it's gonna get. *hides*
