On a lighter note...

...for those of you who aren't on DW, I've written a couple more short things since landing on the Island. Lieutenant Buckethead (FFVII, pre-game, not CC compliant), and Close Encounters of the Sewer Kind (Avengers/TMNT crossover, takes place during The Winter Soldier.)

Both links go to AO3.

(Am working on a larger project, TF this time. Watch this space.)

Re: the *shudder* new TMNT movie.

I'm almost fascinated by the whole thing, as one would be fascinated by a train coming into the station far too fast and already on fire. I mean, just so many poor decisions, one after the other, it's almost awe-inspiring. The Shredder being played by a white guy*, the mangled backstory, the (ohgod) faces. How can so much Wrong be packed into one project?

You know who I feel the most sorry for? Megan Fox. After her involvement with the Transformers franchise and the inglorious exit therefrom (and don't think that throwaway 'Yeah, she was a bitch' line in DotM didn't make me want to strangle Bay and Shia with each other's intestines), here she is in the middle of another geek property that's going horribly wrong. Which means she's about to get hit with a whole new generation of angry fanboys typing out their screeds accusing her of somehow ruining their childhood with one hand while jerking off to her picture with the other. The poor girl.

I sincerely hope that her next geek/scifi project is with a competent development team. And when we get a Power Rangers movie in a few years (you KNOW it's coming), she should definitely play Red.

*They're not even trying anymore, are they? They know everyone's expecting to see a Japanese guy in the role. They know they're going to get blowback for this. The only possible reason for this choice is 'we're racist, and we think you are too.' Fuck you too, guys.

At least the new theme song doesn't make my ears bleed. That's something.

So. The upcoming TMNT cartoon. It's actually going to be a thing. And we've got a clip of our heroes training here. The boys in action in an in-show setting! Sneak peek at what we can expect! Yay!

My thoughts? Eh... okay, look, my personal rule is you give the show a chance to show you where it's going before you pass judgement. Five episodes or so, say. Maybe even a whole season in certain cases. But after watching this, I'm starting to have my doubts. The animation style is... trendy, wherein 'trendy' is some corporate office's idea of What The Kids Are Into These Days after a few focus groups. There are some anime influences on display, which is fine in and of itself, but I'm not sure how well it works with the CGI. But like the Animated art style did, it might grow on me as time goes on. I'm more worried about the characters themselves.

Certain things are jumping out at me. )

I'm still gonna watch it, you understand. See you at the end of the month. *salutes*

And the only reason I'm posting this now is because I just got a voicemail from my boss saying I don't have to come in until this afternoon. I know I should be sad about this, but I'm really just looking forward to going back to sleep for a few hours. <3

My scanner's still not working, but fortunately, Dad has a shiny working scanner upstairs. Unfortunately, it made my tentacle!Roddy skibble ug-ly and I'm not going to re-scan it tonight. I'll get it up tomorrow.

So here are two others to hold you over 'til then. )

So I was rummaging through my 'started-never-finished' file and I found a TMNT ficbit that I thought would entertain my flist. *dutifully posts!*

Let's see... if I was a normal twenty-year-old, what would I be doin' right about now? )

I find Raph easier to write than the other turtles. I wonder why that is.

Thanks for cheering me up, everyone. I'm sorry I worried you. I'm not going anywhere, I promise - if nothing else, it'd be rude to saddle my parents with my student loans. ;P Anyway, I'm okay now. Mostly. More or less. ...look, I wrote ficlets, I can't be that far gone.

Also, there's a fluffy puppy at work. It's hard to be sad with a puppy.

It's not as if there's anything else going on in my life right now. ;P Another writing meme!

The Microfic Meme
Try to write different categories of fic (angst, fluff, UST, etc) in one sentence or five.

The original concept seems to be that I just do whatever in this exercise - but let's have some fun. Give me a character/series/pairing/kumquat and I'll fill out the categories for you.

You all know my fandoms, but just in case, they're listed in my interests. ;) To start us off, here's some Turtlefic, because a throwaway comment from (lj)poptartodoom inspired me. ^_^

So there's this guy at the old folks' home where my grandma lives, whom I shall call Ernie. Ernie doesn't have a lot of friends, but he's made good friends with Grandma, in part because he raves about her cooking to no end. When Grandma makes something she knows he likes, she makes some extra and brings it to him. So it's a nice little friendly arrangement they have going: Ernie gets fed, Grandma gets flattered, it's all good.

Mom told me today that Ernie found it necessary to have a serious talk with Grandma recently. "Mooglegrandma," he said, "my girlfriend has been getting phone calls recently that I've been cheating on her with you. We both know that's not true, but would you like to have my girlfriend's phone number so that you can talk to her as well?" "Why yes, that would be lovely," said Grandma (or something to that effect).

Guys, my grandma is in the middle of a sex scandal at the old folks' home. Have I mentioned how very much I want to be just like her when I get old? ^_^

And also, more from "Raph Has a Student"-verse, because [info]jennielf asked and I got another scenesquirrel. ;)

Student actually gets a speaking part here, but is still unnamed. )

Best. Community. EVER. I seriously laughed myself sick. ^_^

Also, I may have a fic in mind for [info]fictunes this month. Nothing too complicated, so it shouldn't interfere with my schoolwork. It's a Saiunkoku Monogatari fic, so of course it's Utter Cute. ^_^

Also also, have a TMNT ficbit that's been floating around in my head. Yes, the girl under discussion is my self-insert, but you don't actually see her so I figured I could get away with it. DEAL WITH IT OKAY. )

Lessee... what have I been up to the last few days?

Friday: participated in the LJ strike. Yes, I'm a whiny little fangirl, get it out of your systems. My thoughts on the matter in short rant form, for those who are interested. )

*whew* Okay, I'm done.

Saturday: went out in the evening with [info]_kyri and [info]lighttomoyo. We went bowling ([info]_kyri and I sucked) and roller skating (we all kind of sucked) and to dinner, and much fun and liberties with each others' boobs were had by all. And I was out until 1:30 in the morning, whee. ^_^

Sunday: cleaned up in the basement a little, then [info]poptartodoom called to say she was in the area, would I like to do something? As luck would have it, Mom and I had already been planning to see Horton Hears a Who, so one more person was only of the squee. We did like the movie, for reference; was very cute. Although during the scarier parts I kept thinking, "Horton, you're a damn elephant. You outweigh everyone else in the jungle! Just stampede the hell out of them, for heaven's sake!" But then he wouldn't be Horton anymore, and this wouldn't be a kid's movie anymore. And I wonder if I ought to be worried about myself. Horton continued: cut for current events, abortion, and a certain amount of smugness. )

Today: I got much farther on my projects, which is good as the mod ends next week. *eyeroll* Aaaand of course the printer is broken. Argh. Also, I heard a nasty rumor about how few colleges take transfer credits from the school that gets forty thousand dollars a year from me, but I'm trying not to think about that until I graduate. I really, really, really don't need anything else to worry about.

Also, apparently the President is visiting the base on Thursday. He's giving a speech at the Air Force Museum in the morning, and taking over half my dad's office building to give pep talks to the people who lost family in Iraq. (The death toll - just for Americans, mind you - hit the 4000 mark on Easter. Happy resurrection day, Jesus.)

A Turtles ficlet for kyri, because I promised. )

TMNT/Beast Wars/Fruits Basket (yes, really, and no, I don't have an explanation), short genthing just to see what would happen. Have a happy and prosperous Year of the Rat, y'all. ^_^ (Before you ask, yes, I'm a Rat too.)

And the funny thing was... )
